Located in a former industrial precinct from the 1920s, The Grounds of Alexandria is a landmark coffee roastery, café and kitchen garden known for its abundance of fresh produce and hands-on experiences.
Opened in April 2012 the site hosts a coffee research and testing facility, artisan bakery and luscious open garden of heirloom vegetables, fragrant herbs, fresh fruit and flowers.
With a nod to the sites heritage, which originally included a mix light industry such as tanneries, wool washing and market gardens, The Grounds provides a wholesome and produce-driven dining experience complemented by the Garden and its own floral extraordinaire Florals by Silva.
Silva has been in the floral industry for 12 years, with a focus in Sydney. Her company, Florals by Silva source all their plants & flowers directly from Sydney farms including Kellyville, Oakdale & Glenorie as well as Sydney’s markets. Travelling to the farms about 4 times a week, the Forals by Silva team lead busy weeks. A usual day starts at 6:30am at the Grounds of Alexandria with their busiest period being the weekends.
The customer’s base at the grounds is described as “happy, loyal with a genuine interest in where the companies flowers & plants are sources & cared for”.
When asked about her inspirations, Silva emphasis her love for the customers experience in her company; “It’s all about the experience a customer receives when they walk into my store; but aesthetically, I’m inspired by organic materials, textures and nature as well as the seasonal fragrance found in nature”.
Florals by Silva manage the floristry for all in-house events at The Grounds and will begin conducting floristry courses at The Grounds in 2014.
